Colors Of Faith What They Mean

NIGHT OF CHILE ON

For those who have been lucky, perhaps if the wrong (which is not very important) - to access the formidable Roberto Bolaño's prose, we can not be strange that the English translations of several of his books, particularly of The Savage Detectives "are succeeding now in the literary world undemanding not U.S. A.
is already a truism that translation is betrayal, a theme that would require extensive linguistic semiotic analysis (which exceeds the purpose of this review). But we can say it is plausible the hypothesis that Bolaño's prose offers no greater risk of translation into any language by its pace and its omnipresent lyrical and lush metaphors (Could it be that the metaphorical is usually easy transition from one language to another ?).
The narrative style of By Night in Chile, the feverish and tormented monologue of a priest of Opus Dei, which is none other than the revered José Miguel Ibáñez Langlois, (a) Ignacio Valente presents a fascinating and frightening pace, and time, is the description of the hard great anathema to the seemingly invincible figure of the priest and literary critic. Anathema is presented Bolaño as self-inflicted.
Night in Chile is, moreover, an almost innocent of immense cultural background of the writer, a sort of priest of the literature. In this perspective, the short novel contains a lot of confrontation between religion founded on a divine creator and the religion of literary creators (required opponents of God.) In this direction, it is pertinent to recall the title of The Savage Detectives:

- Do you want the salvation of Mexico? Want
Christ is our king

-No. Malcolm Lowry

We believe that the prose Bolaño is (religiously) designed to shake the current panorama of Chilean and English-speaking literature. And we think that Night in Chile allegorizes so formidable that has been the cyclical and tumultuous life of our country.

Story Night

NIGHT STORY

As I began writing it was not hundred percent sure the relevance of his writing, the validity of having it all. But on the other hand, largely avoided think maybe if it was his last literary attempt.

was tired. Or rather tired frequently (at least three times per week). No, this was not an issue that had to do with his age, with its nearly sixty-four years. In the purely physical, its effect was higher than in their twenties, did gymnastics for a certain intensity (the style practiced by the British military) almost every day (the exception is produced when the wine has spent her night waking) and practicing kung fu (Chinese martial art) three times a week.

often be tired to remember how wrong I had been his life and the many and intense pain that it had been planned.

And those nights I dream rushing burdensome and uncertain. Upon awakening, he did nothing but nightmares attributed to alcohol intake at night. Could change their minds when a psychologist who reported that fine wine was only one variable among his motley psyche.

And now he was about to start writing had scrupulously avoided red wine consumption, replacing the brew blessed and invincible for a chaotic herbal tea. I was not totally sure of the need for all that, but I suspected that the time is were finishing.

The dream began to surround it. Did not stop smiling briefly when he wrote that was not entirely ruled out that Morpheus has bothered to save him from the whims of the gods (speaking of Nietzsche when he thought about the gods and Morpheus after starting to be interested in Greek mythology).

did not notice at all when he began to see her first vision was imprecise: playing in the background is the traditional march-German Erika Pinochet's favorite, and a diffuse odor seemed to dominate in the immediate environment (the room talking about work and rest night our man). Embody the vision began little by little and little by little an unprecedented terror began to seize. The process took several minutes before she was fully manifest. Lucia Hiriart was Vda. Pinochet, she looked young, possibly in his thirties, appeared to be armed with an instrument: possibly a whip? I was staring at but at times led sideways view to either side. It said he knew that look grim.

-Lady ... "he managed to say softly.

She looked at him with extreme severity. He is not possible to make the instrument that carried Dona Lucia, but he guessed rightly that the situation was very dangerous. He wanted a cigarette but she stopped him.

"Look, young man rebuked him with his usual shrill voice, I do not know how dare you treat me lady after all that has peddler about me.

Young eyes of the former First Lady were now piercing, he knew this was the end. The woman raised her right arm and started to download the first lash on his hands still rested on the computer keyboard.

When the whip reached his destination, our man woke up completely drenched in sweat. The next day, would infer that it was all due to the chaotic infusion of herbs he was drinking. But, however it chose to give up writing: that issue was not at all relevant. In fact, all his baggage was too impertinent literary theme. And that should be the reason why chose suicide.

LETTER TO MEDIA STATEMENT OF INTENT I

Temuco, February 6, 2008.

Mr. Director:

The now retired general Gonzalo Santelices not guilty, it is not at all. His move to retirement, which I am the way, responded to a decision and institutional pressures, and was not at all voluntary, "is unfair. Completely unfair. Is false statements made by the lawyer Hector Salazar in that Santelices "could have refused, as many of the officers refused at the time, to fulfill such orders, not nothing happened" (Radio Cooperativa).
I was also a lieutenant in the days of Sabbath. I know of no officer of the Armed Forces or the Police, who has refused "to comply with such orders" (very different is the case of some uniformed, overt supporters of President Allende, who were separated from their posts same September 11, 1973 and immediately jailed, harassed and tortured).
After the start of the tragedy, no officer refused to obey orders murderers. And the reason is clear: we were completely convinced of the full justice of all that was working. Is that we were lied treacherously. We talked about the need to destroy the Marxist terrorism. We told stories about what sordid Communists, MIR, socialist, leftist and Christian Mapuce intended to do with us and our wives and children. We are convinced of the existence of Plan Z.
however, was the military superiority of those days the only culprit of all that swarm of lies? No, indeed. There was a whole "intellectuals" who dressed in civilian-certainly from of those policy areas that had been converted to the Armed Forces and Carabineros de Chile in a litany of obsequious-plotting and disseminating macabre stories. Sowing hatred that is capable of generating psychotic torturers and murderers.
Santelices, sir, not a murderer. In those days, merely to comply with an impossible to ignore, an order whose validity he could not object. Santelices was, is and will be sure to have fulfilled their military duty. It's rude to say that after the slaughter he had to help carry a cork that has been "floated in troubled waters" (the metaphor for the lawyer Salazar). He never knew guilty. Santelices
General is not a murderer. There are many murderers who wore no military uniforms in those days and now live their old age with an enviable placidity.
